Our Vision is to become a distinguished department in Scientific Research offering and undertaking problem-solving research and extension that meet the needs of the farming community in both small and large-scale agriculture in arid lands to ensure food security in Egypt.

The mission of the Department of Plant Production is to calibrate agricultural practices to fit arid land farming for sustainable production of crop through the strengthening of both basic and applied research as well as training.

Developing cropping systems, introducing new crop varieties and new crop species compatible with arid lands environment. Development of crop varieties that have tolerance to salinity and drought as well as being high yielding and early maturing. Application of biotechnological tools to improve crop development. Training of graduates to be highly motivated and capable of making significant contributions to Egypt’s effort in crop production. Participating in developing agriculture policies that will enhance agricultural productivity. Dissemination of research valuable findings through seminars and workshops.
