Professor Dr. Mona Mahmoud Abdel Latif, Director of the City of Scientific Research and Technological Applications, stated that the city has advanced to the seventh position in the second edition of the Scimago ranking for research centers, institutes, and research institutions in North Africa and the Middle East for the year 2023, with a total score of 0.1367. Professor Dr. Mona Mahmoud Abdel Latif also pointed out that the city has advanced to the seventh position in the Scimago ranking for research centers, institutes, and research institutions in North Africa and the Middle East for the year 2023, the fourth position in the Arab Republic of Egypt, and the second position in the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, with a total score of 0.1367, compared to the previous year 2022, where it was ranked eleventh in North Africa and the Middle East, the fifth in the Arab Republic of Egypt, and the third in the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, with a total score of 0.1027. She added that the city’s achievement of this position is the result of scientific excellence in various criteria, the most important of which are: the number of distinguished research papers (EXEC) 483, the number of research papers published in highly influential scientific journals (Q1) 1113, the number of international collaborative research papers (IC) 1303, the number of research papers indexed in the SCOPUS database (O) 2195, the number of regional collaborative research papers (RC) 796, the number of industry collaboration research papers (IDC) 14, the number of published papers per researcher (STP) 590, the number of patent citations (PI) 39, and the number of research papers contributing to sustainable development goals (SDG) 1135. It is worth mentioning that the Scimago ranking focuses on ranking universities and government institutions engaged in scientific research based on a composite indicator that combines three different indicators based on research performance (40%), innovation index (40%), and societal impact (20%), and each main indicator includes several sub-indicators.
