Protocol of Cooperation between the City of Scientific Research and Technological Applications and National Institute Of Oceanography and Fisheries

Professor Dr. Mona Mahmoud Abdel Latif, Director of the City of Scientific Research and Technological Applications, On Wednesday, October 11, 2023, received Professor Dr. Amr Zakaria Hamouda, President of National Institute Of Oceanography and Fisheries , along with the Deputy Heads of the Institute, the Director of the Alexandria Branch, the Head of the Marine Environment Department, and the representative of the researchers at the Institute. The meeting was also attended by Professor Dr. Mohamed Rashad Abdel Fattah, Deputy Director of the City for Scientific and Research Affairs, and the deans of the research institutes in the city, to discuss areas of cooperation between the two sides and to sign a joint cooperation protocol. Professor Dr. Mona Mahmoud Abdel Latif emphasized that the cooperation protocol comes within the framework of the leading role played by the city in the cooperation and integration between centers, institutes, and research bodies, and in implementing the national strategy for science, technology, and innovation in maximizing the utilization of laboratory facilities, scientific equipment, and qualified and trained human resources for all members of the scientific research community in Egypt. The visions of the city and the National Institute Of Oceanography and Fisheries, which seeks to reach the highest levels to meet the desired quality standards and maintain constant communication with the Egyptian society and exchange scientific experiences in common subjects, coincided. In addition, discussions were held on developing a future vision for practically implementing the protocol through several axes and joint projects in the fields of wastewater treatment in fish farms, production of nanomaterials, production of medical materials used as anticancer agents from fish waste, and cooperation in the field of energy through green hydrogen production. In addition to scientific training and academic cooperation, the exchange of technical information and scientific visits, the establishment and support of scientific meetings, conferences, and workshops, as well as linking with industrial, academic, and professional entities whenever possible. On the sidelines of the visit, a presentation was given on the activities of the city and its research institutes, and a tour was conducted of the research laboratories of the city to learn about the distinctive laboratory facilities and ongoing research activities conducted by the research staff and their assistants. It is worth mentioning that the National Institute Of Oceanography and Fisheries is one of the national research institutions affiliated with the Egyptian Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. The institute’s mission is to preserve, protect, and enhance Egypt’s various aquatic environments, achieve sustainable development of marine resources and freshwater resources by increasing their potential for food production and combating pollution from all sources, and work on reducing poverty and improving the standard of living through the development and introduction of new methods.
