The contract was signed on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, at the city’s headquarters, in the presence of Professor Dr. Abeer Abdel Wahab, Dean of the Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology Research Institute, Professor Dr. Manal Ali Shalaby, Acting Head of the Center for the Development of Pharmaceutical, and fermentation Industries development center (Initiator of the product idea – Head of the research team for the product), Dr. Sami Zaki, researcher in the Department of Land and Water Technologies At the Arid Lands Research Institute in the city and Professor Dr. Hani Nour El-Din El-Minshawy – Chairman of the Board of Directors of Samarmon Fish Processing Company, Head of the Fish Division of the Food Industries Chamber, and Member of the Board of Directors of the Alexandria Businessmen Association. Furthermore, A non-disclosure agreement was previously authorized between City of Scientific Research and the company “Summermoon” on August 16, 2023, describing the manufacturing and production processes, and after agreeing on the transfer of technology, this contract was signed. Professor Dr. Mona Mahmoud Abdel Latif explained the contract is considered a leap step through transferring technology and preparing future studies, strategic planning, and road maps for applied research. This research serves the Egyptian industrial sector based on a national economy built on knowledge and innovation, and also within the framework of what the state adopts. This product will be completely industrially produced in the Summer Moon factory through research expertise in the SRTA following the national strategy to link the scientific research industry with the industrial sector and investment through technical and technological expertise and knowledge from applied research projects with the aim of deepening local and national industries. Professor Dr. Manal Ali Shalaby indicated that there are a number of unused raw materials in the fish sector, including fish skins and scales. Instead of wasting these materials, a marine collagen product was obtained by deriving it from fish scales, skin, and bones. The produced marine collagen can be used as a nutritional supplement (in the form of powder or pills) or as a skin surfactant through several forms of gel, powder and as a healthy and safe product. This product will be produced from natural ingredients that do not contain medicine of any kind or carry any disease, pollution, or contamination. This marine product stimulates the immune system compared to animal collagen, very low costs, as it was developed from natural resources. Furthermore, This product has tremendous ability to resist aging, and it is completely free of preservatives, silicones, and heavy metals. In the same context, a patent was obtained to protect the method of extracting marine collagen from marine sources, which is in the process of being produced industrially. It is worth noting that Summer Moon Fish Processing Company, headquartered in New Burj Al Arab, is one of the distinguished industrial entities with its deep and accumulated industrial expertise, capital and institutional capabilities and components that enable it to provide and manufacture many industrial products at the local and international market levels.
