SRTA-City and its Research Outputs in the Service of National Industry

Prof. Dr. Mona Mahmoud Abdel-Latif, Director of the City of Scientific Research and Technological Applications (SRTA-City), inaugurated the city’s periodic forum with industry under the title:“SRTA-City and its Research Outputs in the Service of National Industry”,in cooperation with the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology (ASRT) and organized by the city’s Entrepreneurship Club Office (E-Club).The event took place on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at the city’s main conference hall, with the presence of Vice Presidents of research centers affiliated with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Prof. Dr. Mohamed Rashad Abdel-Fattah, Vice Director of SRTA-City for Scientific and Research Affairs, deans of the research institutes at the city, Prof. Dr. Amr Salah Morsi, Executive Director of the E-Club Office, as well as chairmen, board members, and delegations from numerous industrial companies across various sectors, including: medical products, medicinal herbs, essential and extracted oils, food industries and additives, cosmetics, plastics and acrylics, and animal feed. The forum also witnessed the participation of a wide group of the city’s researchers and their associates.Prof. Dr. Mona Abdel-Latif stressed the importance of cooperation with the industrial sector in addressing the challenges facing economic growth and achieving sustainable development, through transforming prototypes and research ideas into products with real economic impact on society. She emphasized that the industrial sector is a cornerstone of the Egyptian economy and that applied scientific research is the foundation of industry. For this reason, the city organized this periodic forum with industry as part of the National Strategy for Science, Technology, and Innovation 2030, particularly the axis of investing in scientific research and building partnerships to support and develop applied research projects. The forum also supports the National Strategy for Higher Education and Scientific Research launched in March 2023, which includes the axis of innovation and entrepreneurship, and aligns with the announcement by Prof. Dr. Mohamed Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, of the National Policy for Sustainable Innovation and the launch of the competitive call for the presidential initiative “Alliance and Development”. This policy positions Egypt as a regional hub for innovation, given its strong potential to meet the growing demand for innovation.Prof. Dr. Mona Abdel-Latif added that holding this forum reflects the city’s role as a driving force for research outputs and a source of human and material resources for scientific research and development. This qualifies the city to participate in supporting industry with the aim of enhancing and developing local production, boosting competitiveness, substituting imported raw materials with local alternatives, and reducing the import bill—thereby contributing to comprehensive economic development.During the forum, the city presented 24 innovative products and prototypes across several axes serving different fields, the most notable being: agriculture and food, energy, health and population, and strategic industries. Researchers showcased their products, followed by discussions with the attendees. Some industry leaders expressed their interest in collaborating with the city to market and manufacture these products, while one participant suggested establishing joint start-ups with SRTA-City to further develop technologies and innovations and apply them industrially.

For this reason, summer and winter schools are organized regularly each year. She added that training serves as a gateway to the real world, enabling students to acquire the necessary training and knowledge to effectively develop their skills, keep pace with technological progress, and connect with the local, regional, and international labor markets. The schools included both theoretical lectures and practical experiments. The winter schools were held through in-person attendance, dedicated to the top students of Alexandria University, with a requirement to submit their certified GPA records. A total of 400 students applied, and 300 students were accepted into 13 training programs in various fields, including: Soil Fertility, Animal and Poultry Production, Water Treatment, Microbiology Techniques and Cell Culture, Entrepreneurship “From Idea to Practical Application,” The Fermentation Journey, The Role of Microorganisms in the Environment and Health, Drug Manufacturing from Natural Products, and Food Safety. In addition, online training courses were offered for students of public, private, and national universities across Egypt. A total of 1,200 students applied, and 1,100 students were accepted into 6 training programs in various fields, including: Statistical Analysis, Air Quality, Food Quality, Application of Microbial Physiology in Environmental Decontamination, and Information Technology. All programs were supervised by a distinguished group of scientists from the City.Prof. Dr. Mona Osman, Head of the Organizing Committee of the Training Schools, emphasized the importance of these schools in raising awareness of modern technologies, enhancing the competitiveness of graduates, and bridging the gap between scientific research and industry. These schools aim to target students in the final stages of their university education to prepare and qualify a new generation of distinguished young researchers capable of leading the journey of science, research, development, solving societal problems, and achieving sustainable development.
