About the City of Scientific Research

The City of Scientific Research and Technological Applications is one of the leading research institutions in Egypt and the Arab region. It was established to be a center of excellence and innovation, serving as a vital link between academic research and industrial needs. The city includes a group of specialized research institutes and technology centers equipped with the latest technologies, making it a fertile environment for producing knowledge and transforming it into applied solutions that serve the national economy. The President of the Arab Republic of Egypt issued Decree No. (85) of 1993 to establish it with the aim of developing and advancing modern technology and applying advanced scientific methods in all fields of production and services, identifying the most important development problems and proposing appropriate solutions for them. According to the establishment decree, it includes 12 research institutes and technology centers that are being established in stages according to a scientific plan. The city was officially opened on the thirteenth of August 2000. Since then, the city has been working to focus on scientific research and technological applications equally, as they constitute the main feature of the activity and overall objectives of the scientific city. This is what distinguishes it completely from other scientific research and technology institutions in the Arab Republic of Egypt. The city is distinguished by its unique geographical location in New Borg El Arab City - west of Alexandria Governorate, which is one of the new industrial cities that includes within its borders approximately 40% of the volume of Egyptian industries of all kinds.

To be a leading regional and international center for technological innovation and the primary driver of the transition to a sustainable knowledge economy in Egypt and the region.

Objectives

The city's objectives are focused on key pillars that serve the national vision:

• Developing Applied Research : Focusing on research that addresses real-world problems in various fields such as energy, water, health, and agriculture.

• Localizing Technology : Transferring and developing modern technologies (such as nanotechnology and biotechnology) and adapting them to serve local industry.

• Supporting Innovation and Entrepreneurship : Incubating startups based on technological innovations.

• Academic and Industrial Cooperation : Deepening cooperation between the city and Egyptian and international universities through joint supervision, funded research projects, exchange visits, joint training, and bridging the gap between research laboratories and factories to ensure the flow of knowledge and its transformation into tangible and developmental returns.

• Developing Human Capabilities : Training a new generation of researchers on the latest technical and administrative methods.

• Institutional Excellence : Enhancing the efficiency of administrative and research performance to ensure the optimal utilization of available resources and facilities.

Our mission is to conduct high-level applied scientific research in vital fields and develop modern technologies capable of addressing national challenges through:

• Technology Development : Innovating and developing modern technologies that meet the needs of productive sectors (agriculture, industry, and health).

• Knowledge Transfer and Localization : Acting as a link to transfer global technologies and adapt them to the local environment.

• Prototyping : Producing initial technological prototypes suitable for commercial manufacturing.

• Scientific Services : Providing technical consultations, precise laboratory analyses, and technical support to the public and private sectors.
