Workshop at the City of Scientific Research: Biological Solutions and Green Technologies

Under the auspices of Professor Dr. Mohamed Rashad Abdel Fattah, Acting Director of the City of Scientific Research and Technological Applications, the City, through its Entrepreneurship Club in cooperation with Horizon Academy for Training, organized a workshop entitled :

"Water Challenges in the Green Industry Era: Biological Solutions and Clean Energy Technologies"

The workshop was held on Sunday, March 29, 2026, at the City's headquarters in New Borg El Arab City, in the VIP Hall of the Arid Land Agriculture Research Institute. Attendees included deans of research institutes, a number of research staff members from the City, experts and specialists, and representatives from Horizon Academy for Training.

Professor Dr. Mohamed Rashad Abdel Fattah affirmed that the city places water and energy at the forefront of its research priorities. He explained that organizing this event aligns with the city's strategic vision to foster innovation in environmental sustainability. He emphasized that the shift towards "green industry" is no longer an option but an imperative to address global climate challenges. He added that the city, through these scientific partnerships with leading training institutions like Horizon Academy, aims to bridge the gap between academic research and industrial applications by providing efficient and economically viable biological solutions and clean energy technologies. This will ensure the preservation of water resources for future generations and support the Egyptian government's efforts in the green transition.

Professor Amr Salah Morsi, Dean of the Arid Lands Agriculture Research Institute and Executive Director of the Entrepreneurship Club in the city, indicated that the institute's hosting of this workshop stems from its vital role in finding unconventional solutions to address water scarcity, particularly in desert and reclaimed environments. He pointed out that integrating clean energy technologies with water treatment represents a technological breakthrough that contributes to reducing operational costs and protecting biodiversity. This is something the institute seeks to establish through its applied research and ongoing training initiatives. He also explained that the workshop witnessed in-depth scientific and technical discussions linking water resource conservation with green industrial transformation, focusing on several key themes, most notably: contemporary biological innovations, mechanisms for integrating clean energy, and promoting the principles of industrial sustainability.

Recommendations were also reached that would lead to the adoption of a package of executive and research measures to enhance the efficiency of water and energy resource management, the most important of which is:

• Integrating artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things with water treatment technology as one of the advanced technological solutions. • Expanding the use of biological solutions and intensifying applied research on the use of microorganisms and aquatic plants in the treatment of industrial and agricultural wastewater, as low-cost and environmentally friendly alternatives to traditional chemical treatments.

• Developing solutions to water scarcity by creating innovative models for greywater treatment and reuse in irrigating arid and reclaimed lands, thus serving the goals of sustainable development in desert regions.

• Establishing a "technological linkage platform" to launch a continuous communication mechanism between the city's Entrepreneurship Club and the industrial zones in Borg El Arab, to transform laboratory innovations in the field of "green water" into viable entrepreneurial projects.

• Institutional integration through strengthening joint cooperation between the city's various institutes (including the Arid Land Agriculture Research Institute) and the executive bodies in Alexandria Governorate to implement the outcomes of this workshop on the ground.
